Choose your circuit

Circuit 1, 2, or 3 — and the specific route inside it. Refer to our circuits guide if you haven't decided yet.

Pick date and time

Use the calendar. Tickets are non-transferable, so be certain of your travel date. Hourly slots from 06:00 to 15:00.

Enter visitor details

Full name, passport number, nationality, age category. The passport number on the ticket must match the passport you bring on the day. No exceptions.

Pay & receive PDF

Pay by Visa, MasterCard, or Amex. The ticket arrives by email as a PDF. Print it or save it to your phone — both work at the gate.

When to Book

The timing matrix.

Demand is not constant. Peak Andean dry season (June-August) is the busiest period in South American tourism. Book accordingly.

Huayna Picchu 2-4 months ahead, year-round. Sells out fastest of any ticket type.
Circuit 2 · High Season (June-Sept) 3-6 weeks minimum. Frequently sold out 2-3 months ahead. Mid-2026 was sold out online through August.
Standard Circuits · Low Season (Nov-March) 1-2 weeks usually sufficient. Last-minute availability is common.
Daily Capacity

2026 capacity.

The In-Person Backup

If online has sold out.

The Ministry of Culture reserves 1,000 tickets per day for in-person sales only. They are released at:

  • Centro Cultural · Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) — the main in-person box office, walking distance from the train station.
  • Cusco · Calle Garcilaso s/n — two blocks from the Plaza de Armas.
  • Cusco · Calle Maruri 324 — the Dirección Desconcentrada de Cultura office.

On peak dates, lines form before sunrise and the most popular routes (1B, 2A, 2B, 3A) often vanish before midday. Hours are roughly 08:00-22:00 in Aguas Calientes and standard business hours in Cusco.

Pro tip from local guides While waiting in line at the Aguas Calientes office, keep refreshing tuboleto.cultura.pe on your phone. Online cancellations release tickets in real time and you may secure something before reaching the window.
Don't Be This Person

The five rookie mistakes.

01

Wrong passport number

A typo on the booking form means you don't enter. The passport number is non-editable after purchase. Triple-check it.

02

Arriving late

Tolerance is 30 minutes in low season, 45 in high. Beyond that, you forfeit the ticket. The bus from Aguas Calientes takes 25 minutes.

03

Trying to switch circuits

Inside the gate, your route is fixed. There is no exit and re-enter. There is no "I'd rather see Temple of the Sun now."

04

Booking through resellers

"Guaranteed tickets" at unrealistic prices are scams. The Ministry sets fixed rates. Trust tuboleto.cultura.pe or a verified GERCETUR-licensed agency.

05

Forgetting Cusco's altitude

Cusco sits at 3,400 m — higher than Machu Picchu. Acclimatize 2-3 days before the citadel. Climbing Huayna Picchu jet-lagged is a bad idea.

06

Booking train at the last minute

PeruRail and Inca Rail sell out independently of the entry ticket. Book the train the same day you book the citadel.

Then how do you actually get there?

Cusco, Ollantaytambo, the train, the bus, Aguas Calientes — the full logistics map.
