An Editor's Note

Built in the 15th century. Booked in the 21st.

Since June 2024, Machu Picchu no longer allows free roaming inside the citadel. Every ticket is now tied to a specific circuit, a specific route, and a specific entry hour — and those choices change what you actually get to see.

This site exists to make those choices clear. We are an independent guide, not the Ministry of Culture. Whether you're after the postcard view from the Guardian's House, the dizzying climb up Huayna Picchu, or the quieter Royal route through the lower temples — this is where you start.

The Three Circuits

One mountain, three ways in.

Once you choose a circuit, you cannot switch, backtrack, or wander. Pick deliberately.

A Conservation Note

Why the rules keep changing.

Daily admission has climbed from 2,500 to as many as 5,600 visitors. UNESCO has pushed back. The Ministry of Culture has answered with circuits, hourly slots, and — starting in May 2026 — an additional 11-sole conservation fee added to every entry.

The result: a more managed, slightly more expensive, and significantly less spontaneous Machu Picchu. Plan early, choose carefully, and treat the citadel like the fragile 500-year-old artifact it is.

— stay on the path.
